Re: Hot Pot Memories
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 10:18 AMGood thread! I'm not sure I even know where to begin with this one...
There is so much about Hot Pot that I love and cherish. I love the fact that no matter what else is going wrong in my life, I can always go to HP and lose my troubles in dance. It's the only time when I let go of all the other little thoughts and worries and am solely existing in the present moment. Right here, right now, laughing and dancing with all of my friends. That to me is priceless and I don't know where I would be without it!
I know that I didn't cite a specific moment or memory, but I would be hard-pressed to pick out one above the others, and even if I did, I don't think I could accurately express what the moment meant. You kinda had to be there...

Re: Hot Pot Memories
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:00 AMI agree picking one moment inparticular is hard, there are soooo many wonderful ones. Everyday the studio is my safe place, my sanctuary and somewhere I would be lost without, so finding one moment out of the last 5-or 6 years or whatever it has been.....well dam that is tuff.
I will give one quick, funny and embarassing one that popped into my head though. Once Amy was annoucing the lin-up for a student show after class and when she go to me; she said, " and Shelly is going to do a solo" and right at that moment I let out a huge, load ass fart. We all started laughing so hard I thought I was going to pee my pants =)
There are so many of these wonderful moments....so I agree with Melissa, every tear, laugh, hug, etc...is a priceless moment I wouldn't trade in for anything. That is what makes this place so dam amazing (the wonderful community Amy began....she provided the space, and warmth to allow this amazing growth) . -

Re: Hot Pot Memories
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 2:50 PMI can hardly begin to pick out one memory that stands out... every time I walk into the studio I get a hug or a laugh. Just yesterday Amy reminded a student to do taxeems by keeping her "hips flat on the floor" (meaning heels). I've busted up laughing pretty hard in there more times than I can count... those are always good memories! A belly laugh is my favorite thing, and it's hard not to laugh when Amy or Shelly is telling you a story and trying not to crack up.
What makes Hot Pot magic is being treated as equals, not lessers, to our teachers. I have always had good relationships with my mentors and teachers. It is important to me to feel that they see me as an equal, not in skill maybe, but in humanity. And that happens at Hot Pot, without a doubt. Newcomers sometimes can't figure out who the teacher is in the smircle!

Re: Hot Pot Memories
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 3:25 PMThe friendly smiles, big hugs, and feeling of exhilarated exhaustion when I'd leave. I cherish the friends I've made during my time at Hot Pot and I love being able to come back now and again and get my 'fix'.

Re: Hot Pot Memories
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 4:37 PMIcecream Thursdays
The black cloud of crows that signal the start of dance class
Being vultures in the back parking lot
Sewing smircles
The smell of incense
The damn dim lighting
Pole-y
"Somebody go jiggle the handle"
Gasping for thick summer air as we all pile out of the hot studio after a long practice.
----shelly's fart solo!!!! Haha that story made me laugh so hard.

Re: Hot Pot Memories
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 6:05 PMMy very first class was something else. I'd never been to a dance class or anything remotely "alternative" before. It was in the old studio afew doors down about half the size,so I slammed right into the back mirror during class. And I was absolutely SHOCKED at what happened between classes.
Nowadays it takes a LOT more to shock me.
Another thing at the first student show I attended was funny, Catherine and I were chatting with Tascha who said "so just the two of you are triplets?" -

Thu, May 1, 2008 - 8:22 PM...easy! The day i walked through that door and you all came into my life. Every time i meet a new friend there, experience something new. Good times, strange times...even difficult times. All in all... i return to that door. Come in, go out, HotPot flows through these veins.
Bless each and every one of you!
