Re: PUKE
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 10:24 AMI think as someone earlier stated, that there was a bit of a language barrier and she wasn't aware of what all was going on, on top of not having a clue on how to belly dance. In the beginning, it took her awhile to understand that the dancer was gesturing for her to join her on the stage. Then when on the stage, it appeared to me that the drummer distracted Paris's attention from the dancer and he gestured to something behind her. Then when Paris turned back to the dancer, I saw the dancer gesture back towards the drummer again. I think it's just too easy to bash Paris because she's Paris. And who isn't sort of like a 'puppy' when they're first starting to dance. As someone stated earlier, take 'Paris' out of the equation and would this discussion be happening? In my opinion, I don't think so. -

Yesterday, 12:37 PMi can appreciate your sweetness, but defending Paris Hilton to me is definitely lacking reward.

Re: PUKE
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:20 AMI look at this video as someone who was nervous about trying something she had no idea how to do. Forget that she's Paris Hilton and whatever judgments we have around that. Would we have such a reaction if it was someone else? Paris bugs me just as much as the next person but I am feeling a bit cranky today about people bashing on others just because of how we (as society) perceive them.
Imagine being somewhere and having to go up and perform on national (or international) television when you don't have the foggiest idea what you are doing.
*steps down off soapbox for now to go find some midol and chocolate* -

Re: PUKE
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:33 AMI understand perfectly what you mean, but my issue with this isn't that she was painful to watch, it was that she made no attempt to 'try'. The dancer was trying to get, and keep, Paris' attention to show her what to do but Paris was scattered and was oblivious to the offered guidance. If she had just paid attention it might not have been so bad. ;-) -

Re: PUKE
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:42 AMYeah, she definitely has the deer in the headlights expression, or maybe its the deer in the tail lights...after it got run over?
Still I wonder how much was her acting as "Paris Hilton" and how much was other factors (language barrier, insecurity, etc). Shoot I had a hard enough time getting up and dancing when I'd go to Marrakesh and it was Amy & Shelly. -

Re: PUKE
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:57 AMYeah I don't know... I don't have a 'public persona' that I have to maintain so I may just be unable to understand having to act a certain way depending on where you are and who you're with.
I also remember very vividly the terror I felt at Marrakesh when Shelly pulled me up to dance, which is why I watched her like a hawk... looking to the pro for guidance seems like common sense no matter who you are, where you are or how many personas you need to have. -

This I totally agree with. Monkey see...monkey do (or at least attempt to do).

Re: PUKE
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 7:33 PMAwww... Poor Paris! She was nervous.... just like 1/2 the people who are forced to get up and dance in public who can't dance! I see that kinda thing all the time at restaurant gigs. It's the norm, really; trying to look cool while totally incompetent at the same time. At least she was dancing on the beat!

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 1:01 PMI totally agree w/Nansee and Dahlia and Luna. It's not easy to just get up and dance in that situation. I also applaud you Nansee for standing up for her and not just bashing her because it's Paris Hilton.

Re: PUKE
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 8:02 AMShe's just Paris. I don't know that I would expect anything else from Paris. I can only imagine how scary that would have been to get up there like that and not know diddly about the art. I concur with others that if she did pay even a teeny bit of attention to what the dancer was trying to teach her, it may have been better. It was like she didn't even care that the dancer was trying to show her a little this and that. Just my O.
