I'm curious if anyone caught last nights episode of So You Think You Can Dance? There was a hip hop dance awfully reminiscent of Unmata's Tribal Fest piece. It was danced by Kevin and Karen and choreographed by Tabitha and Napolean. It was good, but Unmata's was WAY better!

I know most of you are at the Bunny Brunch, but we're about to head out of town and I wanted to say "WOW!"

BloodMoon was, as always, awesome. I thought that everyone worked together so well; with so many acts coming in from out of town and meeting each other for the first time, you all still managed to weave together seamlessly! Everyone who made this happen has my giant kudos. It was quite a trip!

Hello to my favorite belly dancers! I may be relocating to Sacramento from Eugene, Oregon and was wondering if anyone needed or knew of someone who needed a roommate. Going through a break up and need to start doing the things I want to do, things I need to do for myself. I would be going to UC Davis next fall and hopefully be taking some classes at Hot Pot Studios, woot woot! I'm a great roommate, clean, friendly, no pets. If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

In a Chinese modern dance competition on TV, one unique couple won one of the top prizes. The lady, in her 30's, was a dancer who had trained since she was a little girl.

Some time later, she lost her entire left arm in an accident and fell into a state of depression for a few years. Someone then asked her to coach a children's dancing group. From that point on, she realized that she could not forget dancing. She still loved to dance and wanted to dance again.

So, she started to do some of her old routines, but having lost her arm, she had also lost her balance. It took a while before she could even make simple turns and spins without falling.Then she heard of a man in his 20s who had lost a leg in an accident. He had also fallen into the usual denial, depression, and anger type of emotional roller coaster. But she determined to find him and persuade him to dance with her.

He had never danced, and to "dance with one leg....are you joking with me? No way!" But, she didn't give up, and he reluctantly agreed thinking, "I have nothing else to do anyway." She started to teach him Dancing 101. The two broke up a few times because he had no concept of using muscle, how to control his body, and knew none of the basic things about dancing. When she became frustrated and lost patience with him, he would walk out.

Eventually, they came back together and started training seriously. They hired a choreographer to design routines for them. She would fly high (held by him) with both arms (a sleeve for an arm) flying in the air. He could bend horizontally supported by one leg with her leaning on him, etc. In the competition, as you will see, they dance beautifully and they legitimately won the competition.

So I"m at our little local book store here in Salem passing time before hitting the bus home and wander over to the magazine area ~ low and behold I actually see a belly dancing magazine! holy crap! Cell phone noises at the Studio

So this morning while im doing emails...this vibrating sound is distant... and im searching everywhere for it. find it in the bathroom..it's Kims phone.
10 min. later...this chirping noise....searching....found it on the stars...Gnee's phone.

Outfit stuff for the rodeo

Hello =) just letting everyone know that I have an extra pair of size 9 cowgirl boots, they could probably fit a 9 and a half maybe 10 or 8 and a half. If your feet are small for them you can wear two pairs of socks or if they're a bit small wear thin socks. Also if you're looking for denim for the shitkicker piece the thrift town in carmichael has a ton of denim in ALL sizes...well a lot of sizes... If you're looking for squirt guns for the intro piece I got some brightly coloured ones at the 99 cents store but it would be easy to spray paint them to make them look more in character. Just thought i'd let you know... =)

Rodeo Vision Write-up...PLEASE READ THIS!

The Rodeo Vision

I grew up on a cattle ranch, Angus to be specific. 40acres, 3 ponds, herd of cattle, 2 dogs, 4 cats, rounds of rattlesnake, 1 pig, 4 motorcycles, 1 boat, 3 pickup trucks and 4 horses.

Biscuit. The 15 hand tall brown Quarter Horse. I was 7 years old when my Dad convinced my mother to purchase a mother-daughter Horse combo that were for sale close to the ranch. Flying Star Ranch…my memories are coming back, I forgot that part. My mother worked full time and my Dad was a pilot so he was away on planes for most of my life. Minus a few years when he was laid off and played janitor at my school (my favorite years.) So Biscuit, the daughter of the team at 6 months old, and I had 40 acres and absolutely no chaperone from 7 to 16 years old when I left home. Let the ruckus begin…

She bit me, kicked me, ran me thru fences, into trees, stepped on me and tried to drown me in the pond on a daily basis. After years of abuse she was my best friend and I don’t blame her, we grew up together. These memories are some of the most fulfilling golden nuggets still left bouncing around in my mind. One more story before I get to business.

Biscuit was dark brown and pretty much invisible at night except for the white diamond on her forehead…I almost typed foreheart…awwwww. So school was about a 45 minute drive from the ranch, in “town”, and it got dark early in the winter. By the time I got home from school and then basketball practice, it was late and dark most everyday. I would park my truck at the house and then take my motorcycle down the hill to feed the animals. Here’s where Biscuit comes in. I parked the motorcycle around the corner of the barn and would walk to the hay barn. As soon a I opened the hay door, I would hear it. Biscuit, who I hardly thought was starving after grazing 40 acres on her own free will, would run to the barn. I mean run. I would hear the hooves, but I couldn’t see her. Remember? Dark brown, dark dark brown. She would get closer and closer and the sound of her pounding hooves and heaving breath was incredibly intimidating. She was huge! And I would stand by the door cowering. Just waiting for her to plow right thru me. But she never did. She would stop just in front me, just in front of me. Nostrils flared, ears back and eyes wide open. Wild and completely in control.

This my friends was the inspiration.

The Rodeo Summary

Spend the day on the Ranch! This is a one-time only epic event hosted by UNMATA and Brad Dosland of Taboo Media. Powered by Hot Pot Studios and supported by countless guest artists and die hard fans.

The venue! The Rodeo will be located at Long Branch Ranch, a ghost town recreation complete with small town, mercantile, saloon and a ton more I cant remember. It’s amazing. I mean really. For serious people… it’s perfect.

The event opens at 11am on Saturday August 8th, 2009. Please arrive between 11am and 1pm. Lunch begins at 1pm with outdoor dining and entertainment. From 2-4pm you have the run of the ranch! Game stations, western dance lessons, whip lessons and surprise entertainment will be scattered throughout the town. Bring some extra cash for horseback riding too. At 420pm the stables will open. You will have the opportunity to walk thru and watch the handlers prepare the human horses for the Rodeo. The stables will be open from 420 to 5pm, At 6pm meet at the coral for the Rodeo showcase. The Rodeo showcase will run for one hour from 6-7pm. This showcase includes dance performances by UNMATA, Verbatim, Street Team, Hot Pot Studio and Suhaila Salimpour. Dinner starts at 730pm with outdoor dining and entertainment. 9pm the Saloon opens! All night drinking, gambling and general mayhem! Roulette wheels too! 1030pm the Evening show will begin in the Town Hall across from the Saloon. Featuring Dahlia, Kami Liddle, The Old Ladies, Origin Tribal, The Boiler Bar, Janice Solimeno, Kristen Dosland and The Indigo! Then back to the Saloon to finish out the evening with surprise entertainment and more drinking and gambling! The evening runs until 2am and then we gotta go! Um……..

Tribal Umrah was amazing, GeNee and her family were just AWESOME....I can't even express in words how much fun Amy, Kari, Sarah, April Rose and I had in France!!!! Just wanted to let you know about my first (and last for the forseeable future) workshop in the Bay Area. I think there's a few Hot Potters already planning to attend so feel free to jump on the bandwagon!!

Hit, wave, and roll - How to funk-ify your bellydancing and applying bellydance technique to funk styles and hip hop.
We will be going over how to utilize bellydance technique to create illusory effects in popping, contracting different muscle groups to create a hit, breaking down boogaloo rolls in bellydance terminology, and flipping arm waves inside and out. I will also be discussing different dance styles that are commonly performed with popping, and the distinction between popping and locking.

Yes my lovely sisters of mindblowing, wombcauldron stirring, evolution, revolution, restitution, regenerative, insight catchment, mindful, authentic dance, movement, theatre, prayer, sisterhood web weavers and healers!!!!!!!!! - (whew you all are an awesome community) - Palika is transforming yet again, responding to Gaia's call and Heavy HIps Tribal Belly Dance as school community is officially closing her business doors (never her heart or inner circle though).

On the close of this full moon my garden is bursting with new life, regeneration of energy, elemental forces manifesting in a mandala outside my cave door and I let go, I release and come full into myself as I am now. I'm stepping into a larger body, mind, soul dance practice and prayer of green photosynthesis, of rich brown microbial web soil life, of myceliating fungal networking of repair and regeneration, of polycultural food forest fractal freedom, water witching winding, permaculture prisms and hope for humans as healers to the Gaia landscape instead of destroyers.

2 pieces of antique assuit, one black one white
1 silver rajastani belt, inch thick
12 assorted rajastani and morrocan bracelets
mardi necklace with white glass centerpiece and vertibrae on each side... Read more

balconette bra with keys on front and flowers up side
indian sari bra with row of coins up both sides and turkoman hangings
2 pairs of melodia pants, one nude one black, both glitter
5 pairs assorted heavy indian earrings
3 tuareg rings
1 wild card ring with a bone in it
pair of fluevog boots
striped ruffle shorts
all my make up
small tin with piles of amazing steel cut trim and jet trim
small hair combs

Cowboy Boots!

I've been roaming around Sacramento and its outskirts looking for used cowboy boots. I found two pair today at the downtown SPCA thrift store on E street. One of them is a size 7 and the other is the same maybe a wee smaller. The boots were approximately 16-17 bucks. If anyone finds any that are 8.5 please let me know...thanks!

There were 2 really big pair at Thrift Town on Stockton Blvd for 29.99. These were mens and were around a size 10.

Street Team will be there repin' the Hot Pot Hottness to all of Queer Sacramento. Come down to the park. Hang out with us. Hot Pot has a booth plus a private sun shade if you wanna chill with us and some coolers if you want to bring drinks and keep them cool. Cost is $10 for all day fun.
