RAQUY AND THE CAVMEN ROCKED!!!!!

The show last night was amazing......so powerful and exciting. I LOVED IT!! Raquys fingers were moving so fast they were a blur and the rythms they busted out...wow they were super fun, crazy, and well just awesome =)

So Amy performed a beutifully intense solo piece on friday night at the pre-party (which is referred to in its own post here). Then, Saturday night Shelly, Sarah and April Rose kicked ass Unmata style at the Electric Vardo after-party. I love you girls. You were so awesome.

Needing some Spa help

Hi there, Ladies! (oh, fellas, too!)

I do need a bit of help and here is the case . . .

I am a former member of UNMATA and former Hot Potter . . . and I am also a part of a spa party company called BeautiControl (I remember seeing a thread about spa-ing to help UNMATA go to Taiwan). I am in the process of moving up the ladder so to speak and I need some spa help. What I mean by that is that my general team is doing AWESOME but this month I am in need of 5 people interested in starting their own spa party business . . . The cost this month to join is $179 (plus tax and S & H) . . . after all is said and done, the total cost is approximately $212 - which includes up to 23 full-sized spa/skincare/make-up products!!! That works out to about $9.23 per item - a FABULOUS deal!

Do you have to do spa parties??? NO . . . just take advantage of your consultant discount once every four months (ONLY if you want to) - what a GREAT way to replenish your own spa/skincare/make-up without paying retail and/or purchase gifts for others.

HELP! Bellydance tourist!!

Hey! I hope this counts as being on topic (sort of).

I'm visiting the west coast for the first time ever this summer with my mom (we're both from sunny, sweltering Florida). Starting in Portland, driving down the coast and leaving from San Francisco.

I NEED HELP finding:

1. Bellydance classes to drop into. Does Hot Pot have drop in classes?
2. Finding stuff to see that two native east-coasters simply HAVE to see on their first trip to the west coast!! (My mom is really into botanical gardens and stained glass, if that helps any...)

Any help would be super super appreciated!!!

...to Amy and UNMATA for officially (in my humble opinion) hitting the "Big Time." Sharing the stage last weekend as featured artists with some of the most gigantic names in "BELLY DANCE" today (not fusion, not tribal, or other - no offense - you know I love it all), like Tito and Aida Nour of Egypt, is truly an enormous achievement. "We" knew you were already "there," but now "THEY" know too!!! I think it's rad. Way to bring "ITS/fusion/ATS/Whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-it" to the Gala Stage, baby.

To everyone who helped UNMATA get to Taiwan:
It’s been three weeks since we’ve gotten back and I feel like I’m just now starting to get back to reality. What an adventure! I hardly know where to start when I try to talk about all the wonderful things we saw and did while we were there. But there is one thing that always comes to mind first- the fact that none of this would have happened without a LOT of support from you. Thank you. This was the first word we learned in Taiwanese Mandarin, too. Of course we had trouble with the pronunciation so “sheishei” became “shishi” became “sheeshaw!” We got some funny looks while trying to talk to people!

We learned a lot of things in Taiwan: We learned that the people of Taiwan are extremely gracious hosts. We learned that Stinky Tofu is really stinky. We learned a lot about Taiwanese politics. We learned that the generosity of a community can make the impossible happen, and that we are blessed with a lot of wonderful friends who really want, and work towards, us getting to have unforgettable experiences. Thank you so much. Thank you for all your efforts and contributions in whatever form they took, whether it was money or time or just support. This could not have happened without you. As a thank you, we are going to put together a cd of some of the more memorable pictures form the trip (no, not all 5 billion that I took, I promise!) and give them to contributors. I’m going to try to make this inclusive, but if you don’t receive one and really want one, please let me know!

Another great year of workshops and performances, Amy and Shelley! I can't believe for how long at the intensity you dance at on stage. And the music is always choice. The last time I saw a professional dance troupe perform to Primus was in Marin, Ca. They are this completely experimental, acrobatic, craziness called Pilobolus. If you haven't seen them, yet, I'm sure you would thoroughly enjoy them.

Verbatim called out in Local bands review

DR Pete Venkman maintains a myspace page and works with Nor Cal roots bunkradio.com doing reveiws for unsigned bands on the west coast and offereing advice and insight into the world of breaking an act. Not only did he say at great length how impressed he was with Verbatim on air during the extended reveiw of the 420 show for bunkradio.com Tuesday broadcast, but posted this for his online review

"Well since I am not someone that enjoy leafy-green products you may be wondering what I was doing at a 4-20 soiree. The reason is simple...I enjoy live music and good people. There was both yesterday out at Club My Place in Oroville. Kudos to JP and his team for a great all day event.

I really enjoyed heading (for my second time) out to that club/bar in Oroville. First off, it really isn't too bad of a drive and more importantly the vibe is great. Very kick-back and down-to-earth.

On the bill yesterday were acts like the Animations, Posiden and Arden Park Roots. Also a fave of mine was the dance troupe Verbatim - the are definitely worthy seeing for a variety of reasons - their talent and creativity being first and foremost.

...So if you weren't in Oroville for their great music and 4/20 party I have to ask...where were you?"

It's obvious watching you dance that your choreography is particularly high intensity. I think loads of people would benefit from an Unmata DVD that focused on exercises to help with technique in your style, choreography, and just plain fitness.

Is this crazy?! I have gone from being an Unmata groupie, (I think it started 4 years ago??) to a Hot Pot student AND Unmata/Verbatim groupie. Everyone in Unmata & Verbatim inspires me. Amy and Shelly are beyond awesome and challenge me to push myself and do things I didn't think I could do and feel things through dance that I didn't think I could feel. Everyone at Hot Pot is so welcoming and so awesome. I wish I could hang out with everyone more and really get to know everybody, but I'm always having to rush out after class. :( I am so happy and proud to be involved in everything that Hot Pot does. I know that as a general rule you shouldn't get a tattoo unless it has a special meaning to you and Hot Pot definitely has special meaning to me, so I ask again, is this crazy?!

i was wondering if you gals perform for hire at certain events? and if so what are your rates? i live in fresno....and we have a local pagan pride day every year......this year its oct 4th i believe.........2yrs ago we had some local belly dancers perform.....and it was the highlight of the entire event.......then i discovered Unmata =P ....i suggested to the gal that puts it together that we try to get tribal bellydancers back again this year....

I am sitting here at Hot Pot at this very moment, using Amy's computer and watching Shelly's intro fusion class. Not five minutes ago I was sitting and eating some Asian pears that Teresa shared and I was really struck by what Hot Pot is. It isn't just a building. It isn't just a studio. It's a home, and not just for Amy.

There aren't many places where you see such a clique-free gathering of people. Shape, size, age, color, sex... none of that matters. When you're at Hot Pot you are part of something larger, something gritty and pure and real. Something that more often than not defies explanation; it has to be experienced to truely understand why it's such an amazing place.

So, as I sit here watching Shelly's antics through the slats of the stairs I thank you Amy for creating tangable magic and then chosing to share it with those who are open enough to appreciate it.

Next weekend I will be in Sacramento to teach and prayerform fire dance art. Would love to teach a playshop (or two or three) and wondering how much interest there might be and for what? Below I have a description of some of the kinds of playshops I share, and would really appreciate feedback on what folks might be interested learning! Right now my instincts draw me to teach a free yoga class so everyone can warm up and feel blissful, and then teach a fire fan bellydance, double staff, or poi playshop! What do y'all think?

In movement arts, I have fifteen years of backround in yoga, six years of bellydance, and four years experience with fire dance. Have had the great pleasure of training with many excellent teachers including Amy Sigil, Rachel Brice, Kajira, Kami Liddle, Samantha Riggs, Heather Stants, and Jill Parker in bellydance and MCP/Scottland, Imakokade/France, Banyan/Chicago, Arashi/Texas, Zan/Colorado along with many others in the art of fire dance. For the past three years teaching dance and yoga have been the means of following my bliss, as well as performing fire and bellydance at events and festivals.

Bellydance- Study the ancient art of bellydance infused with fresh breaths of modern style with Bliss. Learn to isolate body movements, improve posture, increase body awareness, and dance with inner strenth and grace.

Fire Bellydance/Contact Juggling Bellydance- Learn to combine the movements of bellydance with fire art or contact juggling. The possibilities of prop combination include (but are not limited to) fans, palms, sword, poi, staff, double staff, hoop or contact juggling. Plan a playshop for your bellydancing or fire troupe to expand performance possibilities or emerse in private instruction in one or more elements to push your skills to the next level.

Fire Dance- See a different spin within the sacred geometry of fire art and be inspired with the dance of poi, fans, single/double staff, contact staff or hoop. Explore movement of props in flowers, antispin, isolations, timing, direction of planes, interactions with the body and more. Emphasis will be on dancing with the movements learned. Dance brightly!

I have, in my little hands, DVDs from the Spring 07 and Summer 07 student shows and I will be taking them to Hot Pot tonight.

There are 20 from spring 07 and 19 from summer 07 to be had. First come first served. If you want to make a donation for the DVD(s) just drop it in the Taiwan fund in whatever amount you wish.

I will have the DVDs from the Summer 06 show next week and I am still working on the Spring 08 show.
